This past Sunday we headed out to Chuckwalla Raceway, a track that is in its infancy, but yet epic to drive. The weather reports weeks prior were pretty dismal, but somehow the track gods answered everyone’s prayers and it was a clear, cool day.
Since Tom’s hatch is still out of commission, it was a good chance to stretch his stock CR’s legs out. I drove my slightly modded S2K to get some practice before the S2K Challenge in June. Its rare for us to get some track time together because we always sign up for different run groups, so today was a chance to get some good battles in.
The sunny skies, cool weather, 54 degree high, ride-alongs, and battles results in the following video.
Thanks for watching

Buttonwillow Raceway, Buttonwillow, CA
The 2011 Speedventures’ S2000 Challenge kicked off this year in a spectacular rain soaked event. The whole month prior to this day had been cool breezes and sunny skies, making the weather seem perfect for fast lap times at the infamous Buttonwillow 13 time attack configuration. Unfortunately, the pending storm couldn’t have held off for one more day and it soaked the track the night before.
The talk around the paddock was less about setup but more about driving fast in the rain. Standing water, slick patches, and slippery burms made for an eye-opening driving experience, especially for those with little rain experience.
The format for the day was “fastest lap” from session 2-4. The rain subsided enough in the morning that the cars in session 1 dried the race line enough to put decent laps in session 2. Then in session 2, scattered showers occurred making half the track damp, while the other track was dry. Around lunch time the rain poured on the track, soaking all the hard work of drying it in the morning. I, as with most drivers, managed my fastest time of the day in session 2.
The final results netted me in 6th placed with a time of 2:10.057
Ultimately, the rain at the track was nothing compared to the rain on the drive home. See you next time.

Leading the Sport Class during the 2010 Machismo 500
I can’t believe it’s 2011 already. First of all, thank you all for all your support in 2010. As with most people, 2010 has been a challenging but interesting ride. Second, apologies for the lack of updates. I know it’s been a while since my last post in September discussing the results of CalSpeed Karting’s Round 3 of their newly formed Super Series. All I can say, is that a lot has happened since then, both good (racing the 2010 Machismo 500 and winning the Sport Class) and bad (finishing poorly in Round 4 of the Super Series).

In 2007 at the American Honda Motor Co Inc. headquarters, in Torrance, California, the largest gathering of S2000′s assembled in the parking lot into the event known as Homecoming. Nearly 500 s2000 from all over North America traveled to be part of it. Chief engineer, Shigeru Uehara, aka the “Father of the S2000″ made his appearance to reveal the new s2000 CR, Club Racer, to the masses.
Then, in 2009 rumors and interest of a Homecoming II emerged on the S2ki forums. Michael Trinh and his team worked quickly to talk to Honda to secure a date and work through all the logistics. He updated frequently to let everyone know what was going on. Then when all was set, Homecoming II was announced.
More than a year in the making, Homecoming II was here…

Richard here. Thought i’d share about my trip to JCCS 2010(Japanese Classic Car Show). It was a little weird being there as a spectator rather than the one showing their car for once. Had to drive around the lot for a while to look for parking and waiting in line to get in. haha.
This year it was back at Long Beach, CA at the Queen Mary Park right next to the ocean. Such a nice setting. Got the Queen Mary in the backround as well as that submarine they have right next to it as well as all that water.
In the show there were the usual cars that were there in previous years but there were also some new ones, and some new ones that caught my eye. One of them was this Datsun 610 wagon, had a 510 IRS rear end conversion, slammed to the ground with the rear wheels all cambered in. Also this one 240Z from Heartbreakers in NorCal. Such an awesome Z. Looks like an old skool wangan car from back in the day. There was a huge section of Datsun 510s with different swaps as wells as other datsuns, toyotas, some hondas, mitsubishi/dodge, subaru, and others. Big turnout as usual. Toyota also brough out some older race cars, one of them being a ’80 Celica IMSA racecar. There were also people driving from as far as Canada to show their cars. One of them being a AE86 Corolla with a Toyota 1UZ V8 drift car!
When i first got in, i got stuck in the AE86 Corolla section as i kept running into friends i havent seen in a long time. Was hangin’ with my fellow Cressida buddies most of the time from Sparkle Garage. One of the cars being a ’71 Toyota Crown RHD and ’84 Toyota Cressida. both suuuper low, japanese Shakotan style.
Well, below are some pics of some of the cool cars taken with my phone. You’ll find more coverage on this event on sites like Motormavens.com Speedhunters.com and some others.

A-Main Rolling Start
103 degrees Fahrenheit. This was the expected high temperature when CalSpeed Karting held Round 3 of their Super Series Championship last weekend in Fontana, CA. The extremely high heat and a full field of racers resulted in some very exciting and dramatic races throughout the day, two of which I managed to qualify for the A-main and (barely) surviving an hour long enduro.

The last time this car was out on the racetrack was back in march of this year. Since then it has lied dormant in Tom’s garage collecting dust while all the parts were collected, inspected, rebuilt, and procured again. For the past two months, Tom has been feverishly working to get the project completed. Anticipation is slowly setting in for all of us. Look out for this monster when it debuts at Sonoma Raceway on October 23-24 for Redline Time Attack.

CalSpeed Karting held Round 2 of their new Super Series this past weekend on the 21st. As with the first round, it turned out to be an all day affair, with the Sprint GP (with 36 drivers) in the morning, and the Ironman Enduro (with 20 drivers) in the afternoon. With four bad karts out of the six karts I had all day, getting spun out in one of the heat races, and getting underpowered karts, I had a field day trying to get a decent finish.
