This past weekend, I teamed up with former teammate Paul Ciralli, K1 Regular Jonathan Wright and CalSpeed newcomer/SCCA instructor Colin Lucas in CalSpeed Karting’s inaugural 2011 Petit Machismo. In short, we qualified in P2 in the Sport Class, led for most of the race until the hired guns of Team LMP caught up and bested us by two laps by the of the race. In the end, we had to settle for P2 in Sport or 11th/23rd overall.

You can relive the event through our Facebook Page | http://www.facebook.com/racelikebunnies or the Kart Endurance World Site     until my full race report is ready.

In 2007 at the American Honda Motor Co Inc. headquarters, in Torrance, California, the largest gathering of S2000′s assembled in the parking lot into the event known as Homecoming. Nearly 500 s2000 from all over  North America traveled to be part of it. Chief engineer, Shigeru Uehara, aka the “Father of the S2000″ made his appearance to reveal the new s2000 CR, Club Racer, to the masses.

Then, in 2009 rumors and interest of a Homecoming II emerged on the S2ki forums. Michael Trinh and his team worked quickly to talk to Honda to secure a date and work through all the logistics. He updated frequently to let everyone know what was going on. Then when all was set, Homecoming II was announced.

More than a year in the making, Homecoming II was here…

Richard here. Thought i’d share about my trip to JCCS 2010(Japanese Classic Car Show). It was a little weird being there as a spectator rather than the one showing their car for once. Had to drive around the lot for a while to look for parking and waiting in line to get in. haha.
This year it was back at Long Beach, CA at the Queen Mary Park right next to the ocean. Such a nice setting. Got the Queen Mary in the backround as well as that submarine they have right next to it as well as all that water.
In the show there were the usual cars that were there in previous years but there were also some new ones, and some new ones that caught my eye. One of them was this Datsun 610 wagon, had a 510 IRS rear end conversion, slammed to the ground with the rear wheels all cambered in. Also this one 240Z from Heartbreakers in NorCal. Such an awesome Z. Looks like an old skool wangan car from back in the day. There was a huge section of Datsun 510s with different swaps as wells as other datsuns, toyotas, some hondas, mitsubishi/dodge, subaru, and others. Big turnout as usual. Toyota also brough out some older race cars, one of them being a ’80 Celica IMSA racecar. There were also people driving from as far as Canada to show their cars. One of them being a AE86 Corolla with a Toyota 1UZ V8 drift car!
When i first got in, i got stuck in the AE86 Corolla section as i kept running into friends i havent seen in a long time. Was hangin’ with my fellow Cressida buddies most of the time from Sparkle Garage. One of the cars being a ’71 Toyota Crown RHD and ’84 Toyota Cressida. both suuuper low, japanese Shakotan style.
Well, below are some pics of some of the cool cars taken with my phone. You’ll find more coverage on this event on sites like Motormavens.com Speedhunters.com and some others.

The last time this car was out on the racetrack was back in march of this year. Since then it has lied dormant in Tom’s garage collecting dust while all the parts were collected, inspected, rebuilt, and procured again. For the past two months, Tom has been feverishly working to get the project completed. Anticipation is slowly setting in for all of us. Look out for this monster when it debuts at Sonoma Raceway on October 23-24 for Redline Time Attack.

With only three weeks left until Round 3 of Redline Time Attack at AutoClub Speedway, the EF civic is undergoing some serious changes. With the old powertrain out and the new one currently getting built, the civic is left as a rolling chassis. Therefore, we are sad to announce that teamRLB will have to miss Round 3 of Redline Time Attack. Both drivers feel that it is unfortunate to have to miss this event, especially, considering its proximity to many friends and family. We will hopefully see you at the next round at Willow Springs.

My goal today was to do a simple valve adjustment on the S2000 to remedy a noise or confirm my paranoia. Upon initial inspection of the lash, I found cyl 1 to be slightly on the loose side, while cyl 2 exhaust and cyl 4 intake were on tight. Alright, adjustment necessary. So as i break loose the lock nut on cyl 3 intake, I noticed the tappet and nut would not move independently from each other. I played around a little bit, most likely damaging it more, and added oil to see if it would seep through the threads until finally I quit being in denial and said, “fuck, its stripped.” Now a simple maintenance job has turned to me removing the cams to gain access to the tappet so that i can clean up the threads in order to safely remove it from the rocker arm without destroying the threads on the rocker arm itself. Then tomorrow, on my lunch break, head over to Honda and pick up what I need.

On the bright side, at least I wasn’t planning to track this weekend in vegas and that the nut didn’t break while I was driving. Thank God for the easy cam removal.

The night was cold and the air tense. Racers from across the country traveled to Anaheim to test their mental and physical abilities. This wasn’t your typical outing to some go-kart track. This was the 3rd Annual 12 Hour Lemans Enduro hosted by Dromo1, a charity race to support muscular dystrophy.

Preparation for Tom’s Civic is finished. Not much has changed since the last event as he is currently preparing for next years package. (stay tuned for more info on that) The usually inspection and fluid changes were done as well as some tweaks to the alignment settings to correct the car from stepping out under heavy braking. See you this weekend and don’t forget to stop by and say hi!

The time attack is less than two weeks away, so today we had the chance to prepare Adrian’s Toyota Celica for the event. At the last event at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, he pushed the Celica to it’s limits. As a result, and the lack of front camber, the edge of the front tires were chunked pretty good on the outside edges. With a year of track events under those tires, we were hoping they would at least last one race. Unfortunately, they did not. Subsequently, we had to order two tires to prepare for the final race at Auto Club Speedway.

We were also able to address the rear wheel bearing noise. (not pictured) The left rear was replaced earlier this year for the 3 events that ran the clockwise configuration. At the last event, there was a prevalent whirling coming from the right rear; which meant, it was finally time to shell out he money and replace it. It was also a precaution considering the banked oval at Auto Club Speedway is run counter-clockwise.

Finally, we set the alignment.

We’ll see you in about a week. Stay Tuned for updates on the Civic
