Official Press Release: Pre Season
The start of the 2010 time attack season is just around the corner. The season opener will be held at Buttonwillow Racewayon March 27-28.
In his rookie year of competitive time attack, Adrian Torres came in 2nd overall in the Stock FWD West class finishing on the podium in three of the four western events. His teammate, Tom Liang, came in 2nd overall in the Modified FWD class finishing on the podium in all the western events. This year, Adrian has not only switched cars, but drivetrains as well: retiring the celica and hopping in the seat of a Honda S2000. He will be competing in the newly renamed Enthusiast RWD class.
“It’s going to be an interesting year for me. Everything I’ve learned in the two and a half years of tracking a front-wheel drive car, I’ll have to start fresh with the S2000. Luckily I’ve had some seat time last year with the car between events and I feel confident I’ll be able to adapt quickly. I don’t expect to be at the front of the pack, nor even mid-pack this year. I know many other drivers will be in cars they have been tracking since day one. My goal this year is to learn and develop the car, get as much seat time, and come back strong next year.”
With the help of new sponsors: jhpusa, mfactory, hasport, rywire, a-spec racing, wicked tuning, Tom will be returning with the civic he drove last year to compete in the Modified FWD class, but with a new setup.
“This year will be big! I could not have done any of this with out the wonderful help of all my sponsors! Although I’m off to a bit of a slow start, when my new powerplant is finally done, I’m actually going to have more torque with the new motor than I had horsepower with the old motor! It’s time to turn up the dial and charge full speed ahead! No more pussy footing!”
Although it isn’t where the first Redline Time Attack was held, Buttonwillow Raceway is where the scene catapulted to what it is now. The famous configuration 13 (CW 13) consists of a long front straight, elevation changes, and multimple transitioning corners causing any driver to never be “relaxed.” This configuration provides the perfect balance between horsepower, suspension, and aerodynamic tuning; any miscalculation is the difference between a podium finish or driving home empty handed. The overall record holder is the HKS EVO. Flown in from Japan just to compete for one event, the car clocked a time of 1:43:523 in November 2007. In the 2 years since, no one has ever been able to challenge that record.
2010 will see many big changes. The team faces uncertainty and unfamiliarity, but what we know for sure is that it will be a challenge; we like challenge. It all starts on March 27-28 at Buttonwillow Raceway.
