Official Press Release: Round 7

September 26-27 marked round 7 of 8 in the Redline Time Attack Series which was held at Spring Mountain Motorsports Park located in Pahrump, Nevada. The track is located about 45 minutes North of Las Vegas and about 4 hours from east of Los Angeles. The course configuration used was a technical 18-turn course which consists of high speed sweepers, medium to hard braking zones, a harsh elevation drop named “ego check,” and a combination of hairpins
Saturday’s practice and test day proved brutal for the team as multiple sessions were black-flagged from spins and breakdowns. This is a testiment to the complexity of the course. Also, traffic didn’t help either. At one point both of our drivers only had one lap before the session was black-flagged where they sat in the hot pits for fifteen minutes in the grueling Nevada sun.
Sunday was race day. There was little clean laps clocked in from the day before, so both drivers were unsure on how exactly to set up the cars. The morning practice/qualifying wasn’t helpful either. An oil spill early in the day cut most of the morning practice times in half, leaving everyone to scramble to grid just so they can get some time on the clock.
During his first time attack session, Adrian’s Toyota Celica encountered a Check Engine Light problem in the middle of his hot lap. He finished his lap and quickly entered the pits. A spectator told us there were gas flames coming out of the exhaust out of turn one, which lead us to believe the car was dumping a richer mixture throwing the 02 sensor off. The light was reset and he was able to complete the full second time attack session where he ran his fastest lap.
Tom’s second time attack session wasn’t easy either. Someone threw debris onto the racing line during a session earlier. It proved difficult for him to manuver around the course as traction was difficult to attain. He ended up running faster in the first time attack session.
In the end, despite the lack of sleep, the long drives, the heat, the dehydration, and lack of solid laps. Team RaceLikeBunnies was able to finish on the podium in each of their classes:
Tom Liang finishes 2nd in the Modified FWD Class with 2:42.824
Adrian Torres finishes 3rd in the Street Stock FWD Class with 2:52.881
As the points chase stands now, Tom is 3rd in the National championship, and Adrian is 2nd in the Regional Championship
We’ll see you in Auto Club Speedway, Fontana, CA on Nov 14-15
